Fashion Trends to watch for Autumn 2016

Posted on August 26 2016

Helen Ruth Scarves

We’ve scoured back through this year’s fashion events, and looked at what our own designers are preparing for the new season to create the complete list of what to look out for this Autumn/Winter season from the UK’s fashion industry.

The Fabrics: Statement Faux Fur and Velvets

Faux Fur has made a strong showing in various forms on all of the big runways this year, always in bold colours and prints.  If it’s not for you, add some luxury to your look with velvet.  Crushed velvet, coloured velvet and velvet from top-to-toe – it is definitely going to be this season’s key fabric.

The Colours: Tan, Gold and Violet

Coats, skirts and knitwear in shades of soft tan are going to be big this season.  For the winter parties, it’s metallic colours, particularly gold that’s poised to be the standout shade this year.  One we’re not so sure about is the strange lilac and violet hues that models were covered in from head-to-toe…we hope it will translate from the catwalk into statement accessories for the high street.

The Patterns: Fall Florals & Animal Print

Animal prints are making another showing for Autumn 2016 – we’re not getting tired of this look anytime soon!  What’s great to see is that many designers are also introducing bold floral prints into the traditionally minimalist season.

The Styles: Ruffles

Don’t worry, we’re not sure how we’ll wear it either – but 80’s style ruffles are back with a vengeance in Autumn 2016.  Capes, dresses and bags will all be getting the ruffle treatment.

The Statement Pieces: Shearling Bombers & Pinstripe Suits

The classic aviator-style shearling jackets are back for 2016, and designed to be worn with everything from jeans to cocktail dresses!  But it will be bold, colourful trouser suits that are the key piece for women this year.  Hailed as the return of the ‘power suit’, slim, stylish and rocking a pinstripe is the way to wear it if the bright prints aren’t for you.

The Accessories: Embellished Straps on Bags & Statement Chokers

Think big, wide, decorated guitar straps…but on handbags.  That’s what we expect to see this season with designers like Anya Hindmarch, Burberry, Fendi, and Lanvin all leading the trend.  For jewellery, it has to be a statement choker.  Not the skinny black strap of the 90’s, but a big, bold, major statement to wear with blouses and dresses.

That’s our predictions anyway!  Get involved in the conversation on Twitter and Facebook and let us know what you think.
